In the Heart of Texas, a heartthrob cowboy may get his second chance at love...

Danny Oldman, the handsome Lone Star sheriff, is still single. He tells himself, and anyone who asks, that he is married to his job—and what matters most is keeping the people of his beloved Texas hometown safe. The truth? Danny still hasn’t gotten over his high school crush. She moved away after graduation and took Danny’s heart with her.

Skylar Long never thought she would have to flee Houston and return home—where it all began for her. But that’s what happened after the man of her dreams turned out to be an actual nightmare. Now, Skylar is desperate to escape her obsessive boyfriend. Nothing shocks her more than seeing Danny again and realizing that their long-ago attraction is more powerful than ever. But can she and Danny find a way to fight against Skylar’s wealthy, powerful ex who is dead set on tearing them apart?

4.25⭐ A Cowboy Like You, was an extremely enjoyable and engaging story. That pulled me in from the start. Thanks to a strong, plausible plot line, likable characters and a few edge of your seat moments. Not to mention a sweet romance that although a little rushed was still very pleasing to read. And with a small town setting, some nice secondary characters, and a lovely mix of real life issues, drama and suspense. I was easily hooked and would therefore happily recommend it to others. **I was kindly provided with an ARC via St Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review**

Terrific romantic suspense story. Danny is in the right place at the right time to rescue a woman being pursued by her violent ex, and he's stunned to see Skylar, the girl from his youth that he never got over. The story is centered around all the good people in town banding together to protect Skylar from the evil-incarnate ex, whose unlimited resources and politically-connected family allows him to keep the pressure on her from all angles. In the few breaks from the action, Danny and Skylar reconnect and find that now is their best time to make a go of their relationship. All the suspense and tension is confined to the attempts to bring the ex to justice, making Danny and Skylar's romance smooth-sailing by comparison. There's an exciting showdown followed by a lovely HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

A Cowboy Like You pretty much falls in line with the rest of the Heart of Texas series in terms of my feelings about the book. The story has some things I like and some I don't, landing me somewhere in the middle. The suspense is pretty good, and domestic violence is a serious topic when the main focus is supposed to be a romance. And that's where I started running into problems with this one. Not the domestic violence topic, I'm all for shedding light on a subject that was only whispered about for way too long. However, the romance in this one came up sorely lacking for me. I get that Skylar and Danny already knew each other, but it's not like they saw each other every day either. There should have been some getting to know each other time before they were madly in love. And speaking from experience, Skylar should not have been so willing to trust, especially while everything was still going on. The love story here just didn't ring true. The ending felt a bit rushed also, but when you consider the romance, it fits. In the end, this one was just okay for me.
