Each book usually uncovers something new that leads us towards the future battle that is going to happen with the Others and the Dragon Kings. What we learn in this book is a bit frustrating. I really hope what they think is not what really is.

However, I did like this pairing. I like that there was no resistance from Dubhan, and I like how smart Kyra is. She may not be a warrior but she has the mind of a leader. She thinks of things others haven't, which looks like it will help in many ways.

I'm actually getting anxious to get to the battle. It's going to be epic and it's getting harder and harder to be patient.

I've always loved Donna Grant's "Reaper" series but this installment fell short in comparison to the others I have previously read and enjoyed. I just wasn't invested in the characters nor storyline as much as I wanted to be and overall, the book was just… blah. You know? Sure it wasn't terrible and to some extent I did like certain aspects to Dubhan and Kyra relationship and their journey but there was no wow factor. Sadly this installment wasn't for me yet nevertheless I very much look forward to seeing what the author has in store for us next.

Another yummy Reaper meets his match.

This was over much too quick. I want to say so much, but most of it would be spoilerish. Let's just say, no I can't say that, it would be a spoiler. Loved seeing Death, Cael and the other reapers, but not near enough of the Dragon Kings. But that's about to change. Man those Others sure are devious.

Review to co“I can’t explain why I’m drawn to you.” “It’s inexplicable, but it’s the truth. I tried to leave, I’ve attempted to forget you, but I can’t.”

Dark Alpha’s Temptation is the 9th installment of the Reaper Series. I have no read any of the previous books in this series, and after finishing this book, I have been clearly missing out. Yes, I have the worst habit of reading series like this out of order, but I will say that this book is written so well that I was able to jump in and follow right along.

Dark Alpha’s Temptation was a quick and easy read for me. I enjoyed the characters and was quickly addicted to their story. I really liked the connection between Kyra & Dubham. Yes, their connection was of the insta-love type, but it totally worked for me. I felt their connection and liked how they couldn’t stay away from each other. They definitely shared some steamy moments together and kept me glued to the pages to see how their story would play out.

Dark Alpha’s Temptation sucked me in from the very first page. I thought this book was written and paced very well. I loved all of the paranormal aspects and the world that this author has created. This story was sexy, captivating and had some really great twists. I can definitely tell that this story is leading to a pretty epic battle and I can’t wait to continue on with this series. As I previously said, I do think you could read and enjoy this book without reading any of the previous ones like I did. However, I definitely plan on catching up on the series, so that I can fully enjoy and appreciate the overall world and story.

All in all, I found Dark Alpha’s Temptation to be a really enjoyable read and I look forward to reading and discovering more from this author in the future!

Kyra is a Light Fae who is desperate to track down her missing aunt who has practically raised her. Determined to do whatever it takes she’s taking the unprecedented step of stalking one of the infamous Reapers ! Dubham is what many of the Fae think of as the bogeyman and when a female starts showing up repeatedly where he is he knows it’s no coincidence. The Queen of the Light is vanquished but still they cannot find her prisoner so the last thing Dubham needs is the cute Fae with ever changing appearance getting in his way but is it possible that Kyra could actually help ?
I always enjoy these stories as they give the reader hot romance set within an overall story arc that has twists galore. If you love Dragons, Fae and magic then this series is a must read. I love that the author has two series that interconnect and if you haven’t yet started her Dragon Kings books then they are definitely worth your time. This particular book focuses heavily on this couple and their romance but even then there’s a surprising twist that I hadn’t expected . As usual this is extremely easy to read and just flows so well.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

DARK ALPHA’S TEMPTATION is book nine in the Reapers series by Donna Grant. As a fan of this world, I do think it’s worth reading the books in order. However, I do find that you can still enjoy the romances well on their own.

This particular features Kyra and Dubhan, which are two characters that I’ve really come to enjoy. I find that Grant’s characters tend to be very consistent so if you like one couple you’re bound to like the others as well. She just writes really admirable characters who are easy to like. Plus, I really like the mysterious backstory that Dubhan and some of the other Reapers have. Her heroes aren’t as alpha as some other PNR books out there, but they are definitely still interesting enough that you want to keep reading.

As always, Grant infuses this romance with several other plots that intertwined with the other books. So if you’re a fan of extensive worldbuilding then you’ll probably enjoy this book. I always find these books such a pleasure to read, so I would highly recommend them if you’re a fan of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. I look forward to reading more books from Grant.

too short

Good, but things wrap up too neatly in the Reaper novellas. I wish they were full length novels. I would like to know each Reaper better, especially given the history behind them becoming a Reaper. Given the criteria needed to become a Reaper should allow for much more internal struggle of each Reaper. I feel the author is missing a chance to create deeper more meaningful characters and relationships by just making these novellas.

4.5 stars. Grant returns to the world of the Fae and her Dragon Kings, directly after the shocking events of the last Dragon King book (Fever) and we are all still in a lot of awe of the way that story went down. That being said there was really no telling where she was going to be taking us in this next Reaper novel so we were all on the edges of our seats waiting quite impatiently to find out just what’s next. Grant has a magical skill with her ability to interweave all of her series and characters into the beautiful tapestry of the world that emerges from her imagination and with each story it just becomes more and more elaborate and amazing to readers. Dubhan and Kyra’s story is no less than previous stories for being a bit shorter than I would have liked. There was plenty of the expected drama and heartache, but I would have loved more time for them to build their relationship a bit more slowly. Kyra witnessed something she never should have one chilly Irish morning at the Light palace and has been obsessed with the man—and his comrades to an extent—that she saw that day fighting the beasts she never believed existed. Dubhan knows he’s being followed but can’t quite pin down the elusive fae until finally she slips up and he catches the female that has been haunting his steps for far longer than he realized. Soon he realizes that she might be the key to uncovering the truth of the Others and finding a way to defeat them, but bringing her into the fold puts her directly into the path of Death and only with a bit of sneaky and well-planned action can they stay alive and together. I really enjoyed Kyra’s cockiness and her ability to lead Dubhan on a wild chase, but under all that she had a vulnerability and need to belong that made her the perfect match for him. She was a woman that definitely needed to find her true purpose and being able to assist in the battle to end all battles is one that definitely gives her something to sink her teeth into. Her interactions with Death were hilarious and showed that sass can be endearing at times, but I also enjoyed seeing her and Dubhan as they worked together to find solutions to the puzzles that were put before them. Dubhan was a male that has some problems, mainly that he got caught and has been followed without his knowledge for a long-time, not a good thing for a Reaper. He was an alpha badass like you would expect from any Reaper, but his warrior arrogance didn’t overpower his willingness to use his brain and recognize that Kyra was the best person for the job despite her not being fully into his world yet. I enjoyed seeing him embrace her fully and find a way to make her one of them and he shows her that she was loved and needed as more than just a resource; when her world turned upside-down, in the end she was able to lean on him and he gave her all the support she could ever need. The passion between these two was there from the very beginning, even when they didn’t even realize the other was there consciously, but when they come together the conflagration truly is a sight to see. I loved every second of this short novella and I am DYING to see what comes next in this crazy world of Fae, Warriors, Druids, and Dragon-shifters, not to mention all the other amazing creatures that seem to cross their paths. The battle seems to be getting only more and more complicated and there doesn’t seem to really be an end in sight (YAY!) which means there can only be more greatness to come.

REVIEW: DARK ALPHA’S TEMPTATION is the ninth instalment in Donna Grant’s REAPERS adult, paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is Reaper Dubhan, and light Fae Kyra Kavanaugh’s story line. The REAPERS is a spin off from Donna’s DARK KINGS series which is a spinoff from Donna’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. You do not have to have read any of the previous series to understand the premise but many of the events overlap with the events of the Dark Kings. DARK ALPHA’S TEMPTATION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Reapers (believed to be a folk lore amongst the Fae) are a group of Dark and Light Fae, selected by Death (aka Erith), on their own deathbed, to do her bidding-Death is the judge and jury; the Reapers are the executioners. The Reapers are not harbingers of death, but are tasked with destroying the Light and Dark Fae who have crossed a line from which there is no return. All Reapers must follow two rules: never to fall in love; and never to reveal their existence to anyone.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Dubhan and Kyra) DARK ALPHA’S TEMPTATION focuses on Kyra Kavanaugh as she is inexplicably drawn to the Reaper known as Dubhan but no one should be able to see the Reapers, and in this Dubhan is a confused as Kyra when matters of the heart pull our couple together. While Dubhan continues to search for the Light Fae Xaneth, he and Kyra discover magical markings both familiar and not, a way to ward against the Fae and the Reapers. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Dubhan and Kyra, and the potential fall –out when it is discovered that the Others have infiltrated at the heart of the matter.

DARK ALPHA’S TEMPTATION is a story of betrayal and secrets; power and lies. The Reapers will quickly discover that their existence and identity have been compromised, and in this they will become targets of those hoping to destroy them all; and that death is not necessarily a thing of permanence. The premise is intriguing and compelling; the characters are energetic and powerful; the romance and attraction is undeniable and strong.

Dark Alpha's Temptation is the 6th book in Donna Grant's Reapers series, which also entwines with her books about the Dragon Kings. I haven't read the first books in either of these series, but only started a few books ago. Don't worry if this is true for you also; you'll just love the characters, story and action here that you won't care if you are a tad bit confused. You'll also want to go back and see all that you missed!

Kyra is a Light Fae who learned about the Reapers when she was accidentally caught up watching them in battle. She has been looking for her beloved aunt who has been missing for about a century, and she believes a Reaper may be able to help her. She chooses Dubhan, whom she witnessed in that previous battle, as she was immediately drawn to him. She follows him around but Dubhan, no fool he, knows she is following and confronts her. Thus begins a hot romance and Kyra's introduction to the world of the Reapers.

I won't go into a longer description of the plot, as I'll probably just confuse you. This story was centered around the romance of Kyra and Dubhan more than it was about the probable upcoming war against the Others. And it works fine as just a romance. There is sort of an insta-love here, but that is actually explained and makes sense. The romance between these two is very hot and steamy, but also very sweet. It's not all sweetness and light, though...there's a surprise near the end that I did not see coming! I can't wait to read more about Ms. Grant's Reapers and Dragon Kings. You are guaranteed a thrill ride in every book.

I was excited to read Dark Alpha’s Temptation. The promise of finally getting some knowledge of who the Others are and what their agenda excited me the most. I won’t lie and say that Dark Alpha’s Temptation delivers on that promise. Instead, what it does, is add to the mystery of who the Others are.

Dark Alpha’s Temptation was a filler book. There was no progression of the Reaper storyline. Don’t get me wrong; I loved the book. It’s just that I wish the storyline progressed a little more.

The plotline of Dark Alpha’s Temptation was lightning fast. As with most fast-paced books, there was some lag in the plotline. I didn’t mind it because once the author got over the lag, the book shot along.

Kyra and Dubham’s relationship was sexually charged right from the beginning. Some serious sparks were coming off the pages. When they finally did have sex, I thought my Kindle was going to combust spontaneously. It was that good.

I liked Kyra. I wanted to know why she was so focused on Dubham. There was a twist in her plotline that I didn’t see coming. I felt terrible for her.

Dubham was your typical strong but silent type. He was suspicious of Kyra but so attracted to her. His backstory was awful to read, and how he died was even more appalling. I can’t even begin to imagine what that was like for him.

I wanted to know where Rhi went, as did everyone else. There was a colossal complication with that storyline that made me go “Hmmmm.“

Like I mentioned above, the storyline with the Others got more mysterious. What was revealed at the end of the book surprised me. I want to know what their end game is!!!

The end of Dark Alpha’s Temptation was exciting. I have a feeling that the main characters in the next book were revealed. I also am looking forward to seeing what the Others are going to bring to everyone in this universe.

I’ve read most of the Dragon King books, and love them. This is my first Reaper novel, so it felt a bit out of place for me. The Reapers have been mentioned in the other books, I just haven’t had the chance to get up close and personal with them. I know enough about the entire universe so that I didn’t feel completely lost, but I might have had more fun reading it if I had read the previous Reaper novels as well.

That being said, I’ll do my review now. Kyra was fascinated by Dubhan and the Reapers right from the start after she accidentally witnessed them in the battle at the Light Castle. Dubhan temporarily abandoned his search for Xaneth when he realized that he was being followed by Kyra, and decided to indulge his curiosity about her. The attraction between them was instantaneous and definitely mutual. Dubhan had found some mysterious markings on the door of a book store that has connections to the Others. And Kyra knew a guy who could tell them what it meant.

I liked the two of them together. But things progressed awfully fast from light flirting and sussing each other out, to having sex. Not that I have a problem with fast necessarily, but this one caught me by surprise. One minute they were talking about Max and sharing a bit about their pasts, and the next they were way beyond just kissing. After that, things felt a bit more settled of course, since the ice has been broken. What followed was an action-packed journey to discover the meaning of the symbol, the plans the Others are hatching, and warning the Dragon Kings, while dodging the efforts of the Others to stop them.

It was an exciting story, and the plot is slowly moving forward with every new installment. I’m definitely still hooked, and will keep on reading until the end.

I received an advanced copy of the book from Netgalley to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dark Alpha’s Temptation by Donna Grant
Reaper Novel #9

Dubhan is one of Death’s Reapers and he is being followed. Who is following him? A woman and what a woman she is! Kyra is Light Fae but she has a special gift that allows her to locate Dubhan easily...a rather rare talent as few are able to do such a thing. Once she saw him she was almost inexorably drawn to him and though a bit stalker-ish she really could not pull away.

This is a snippet in the long story of this realm. A few characters make appearances, we learn about Dubhan’s family and how he was betrayed, Kyra’s family is almost as bad as Dubhan’s and we hear a bit about them, we learn a bit more about The Others, there are some deaths and a romance with the knowledge that there is an eventual war coming that will be inevitable.

I do not think this is a good point to begin reading this series. I have not read all of the series but wouldn’t mind doing so at some point in the future. I have no idea how much longer the story will go on but do hope that eventually the story lines will be tied together and the entire world of dragons, kings, Fae and others will be able to have a bit of peace.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in the series? Yes

This is the first book in the Reaper's series that I have read; however, I have read all of the Dragon King books and so I didn't feel lost. I would recommend reading them all from both series in the order recommended on MS. Grant's website for the most enjoyment. I will be going back and reading them all in order I think just to gain a clearer picture of what is happening in the overall story arc.

First, if you do not like Insta love type stories or have a hard time with soul mates I don't think this book, or either the Kings or Reapers, are for you. This is very much a quick love story. Sometimes that leaves the characters feeling a little weak and unlikelable. I did not find either of these characters to be that way.

I found that Kyra did not develop very much throughout the story. She does prove to be competent and willing to do what is necessary. However, when we are talking about characters that are, by human standards, ancient I don't expect rapid development. Dubhan does develop and change a little throughout the story but only in one way, which again I think is understandable.

Overall I found this to be a quick easy read that was a pleasant diversion. If you pick it up I hope you enjoy it too.

In Dark Alpha's Temptation we get to know Dubhan, one of the Reapers under Eoghan's command. Kyra is attracted to Dubhan and he puts aside his search for Xaneth to get to know Kyra better. Kyra comes from an old Fae family, the Kavanaughs, and as a result she has several unique Fae abilities that come into play in the Reapers’ efforts to learn more about the Others. Based on Kyra’s analysis, Erith and Cael decide to seek out the Kings and Warriors in order to unite with them in the upcoming battle with the Others. In the interim, the Others have become aware of Kyra and they decide to target her. And where is Rhi???

Donna Grant has shown once again her amazing ability to create characters and situations that keep you eager for more. She has seamlessly blended this novel from her Reapers series with those in her series on the Dragon Kings. I enthusiastically look forward to all upcoming novels in both of these series.

First book of 2020!

3.5 stars. The Reaper series has been hit and miss for me. The story inched the overarching plot along but I didn’t feel a connection to characters.

Dubahn is on a mission to find Xanath and is in a villlsge in Ireland when he realizes he’s being followed. Kyra is compelled to follow Dubhan, four times now, after seeing him fight against Usaeil and the Trackers at the Light Castle. Their attraction is instantaneous and danger follows them as they continue Dubhan’s mission together. However, throw in the Others, some crazy family members, a few murders and maybe someone who may or may not be dead and the mission to find Xanath has been put on hold to deal with the current situation.

There was a lot that happened in this story in a short amount of time. The Reaper books are shorter, almost a long Novella, that I never quite get to connect with the characters. Will continue to read them of course; how is this all going to end?!

Thanks to SMP for the chance to review this ARC for my honest opinion.

Kyra finds herself drawn to a reaper. His name is Dubhan and he serves death, but he feels lighter when Kyra is near. How is she able to track him? Kyra is a Fae. She's spent years searching for her favorite Aunt. Eva has disappeared without a trace. Is she dead? I liked Kyra. She's a strong person with an unusual talent. I was amazed by her strong bond with Dubhan. I knew that they were meant to be together. I wanted them to find the answers they need to prevent bloodshed. The suspense continues to build as they seek answers. These two Are formidable. Someone with enormous power is playing games. The twists and turns kept me guessing. I wasn't sure what would happen next. Donna Grant has written a thriller that I couldn't put down. I loved the characters and was amazed at the complex story. The unexpected twists shocked me. I knew that the Reapers were a force to be reckoned with, but I never saw this coming.

Kyra and Dubhan were great as newbie friends, but fell short as long term lovers. Kyra was intelligent and had a good grasp of thinking outside the box with some very good ideas the Reapers hadnt considered in the fight with the Dragon King’s and the Others. Then there’s Dubhan... okay, so he didn’t really leave an impression on me. Kyra really dominated the story and Dubhan sort of took a back seat to everything happening. Maybe that’s why he didn’t stand out for me?
At any rate, I liked the progression the Reapers have made and loved the deets being set up for the brewing battle, but I didn’t connect with the Kyra, Dubhan, nor their romance.

Dark Alpha's Temptation is Kyra's insta-love story. Although she's a bit wet behind the ears, she is a pretty good puzzle solver. How she fits into the overall series is very intriguing.

Next up, we have the ever-so-studly Dubhan the Reaper. Even though this novel was tagged "A Reaper Novel" I felt he wasn't put up high enough on a pedestal for the label. In fact, he's quite forgettable. He needed to have more of a stronger character and be less of a sex object. Poor guy.

As far as the series goes, Dark Alpha's Temptation fits in nicely. Donna Grant has a knack on adding stories into the series while also moving the plot line forward.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, so I could give an honest review.

Yay! Another Reaper book. I absolutely love the Reapers, and the Dragon Kings as well. I really liked Kyra and Dubhan and all the Reapers that show up in each book.

This one was about the “Others” who are so powerful that Reapers are worried. They killed 2 of Kyra’s friends and a Fae that once was her lover. And they aren’t even sure Usaeil is actually dead.

This is such good series of novellas.

There was explicit sex in this and the F-bomb is now Fek.

As to the narration: Victoria McGloven does a great job on the male voices. Love, love, love female narrators who can make a man sound like a man.

This is Book 9 in the Reapers series. We meet Kyra and Dubhan in this book. Kyra is a light fae and has been following Dubhan. She’s fascinated with him but also thinks he knows what happened to her aunt. Dubhan has been sent by Death o find Xaneth. What happens between the two when they meet is fantastic and a lot of fun. We find out more answers in this book, but it still leaves a lot of questions to be answered in later books. They are both strong people who add so much character and fun to the Reaper books. I highly recommend the Reapers if you enjoy having your loyalty tested and some really good romance. There’s a lot going on in here, so you won’t be bored.

Dark Alpha's Temptation by Donna Grant is book 9 in the Reaper Series. This is the story of Kyra and Dubham. I have read the previous books which I do feel you should do this to fully enjoy and understand the ongoing story line. Dubhan is a Reaper who is on a mission to locate Xaneth but he is finding that someone maybe following him. Kyra is a Light Fae who is out to find her missing aunt who was the one to take care of her. Kyra starts to watch Dubhan who is a reaper but she finds she is attracted to him. Dubha comes face to face with Kyra which starts him being more and more taken with her. I have so enjoyed this series. For me it is a page turner series.

Sooo....

I stopped reading the dark kings because it was taking too long for the big picture but I continued to read the reapers books because they mare so amazing. However, a couple chapters into this book I found out Balladyn was killed and it honestly just pissed me off because I feel like it was so uncalled for. His story arc was so amazing and so was his transformation and after all of that Usaeil still killed him. I’m so hurt that I couldn’t even finish this book. I might come back later but as of now I’m not.

Dubhan is a Reaper and he’s on a mission to find Xaneth but something, no someone keeps distracting him. That someone is Kyra, an unusual Fae who has a few secrets to hide. Their strange connection reveals a few things but leaves us with several questions. This story was different from the other Reaper stories but I couldn’t seem to put it down until I was done. There is so many things I could say about this book but ... no spoilers! All I can say is, another fantastic read!

A big thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of the Reaper series. I think they should be read in order to learn about the world. Pretty convoluted, maybe not a great read as a stand alone. Liked the love story for me the rest is just filler. Still a good read. Kyra and Dubhan's story. 4 stars
